Does anyone have any good tips and pointers for answering KSA's, and what they exactly want you to respond as?

I am currently religiously Appling for federal and state government jobs but I am always afraid that my answers aren't long enough or detailed enough, so afterwards I usually don't complete the application process because I don't think I answered in the type of way they would like me to. So please help...pointers, facts, act!
